Hoopbench

Janome JEF files

JEF is the Janome format. Its header records the hoop it expects, the stitch count, and a colour for each stop as a slot in a fixed Janome thread list.

Used by

Janome machines, and Elna machines that read JEF.

What it keeps

Stitch positions, jumps, colour stops, a Janome thread slot for each stop, and a hoop code.

What it can't hold

Exact colours, and explicit trims. JEF has no trim record, so the machine decides whether to cut from the length of each jump, usually about 3 mm or more.

What to watch for

If you need a cut after a very short jump, a JEF machine may not make it. Inspect the jumps before you run it.

Best for

Any Janome or Elna machine that reads JEF.
